Novy award
On March 7th at their Annual Meeting, the Noble County Soil and Water Conservation District awarded the "Wildlife Habitat Management Award" for 2023 to Bill Novy. Bill is a long time member of Chapter 182 and a very active and strong contributor to the organization. Many of our members attended a Field Day at Bill's property several years ago and were very impressed with his many habitat initiatives. We congratulate Bill on this well deserved recognition!
Buchanan Unit Dedication
On Friday November 3rd, 2023, Governor Holcomb visited Noble County to dedicate the Buchanan Unit addition to the Mallard Roost Wetland Conservation Area. This 158 acre parcel was purchased with a combination of public and private funds and is the 2nd largest conservation project in Indiana. The Governor thanked several organizations for their support of Mallard Roost, including Northeast Indiana Chapter 182 of Pheasants Forever. Representing Chapter 182 at the event were Ron Long, Dave Hurley, and Bruce Griewank, seen in the photo with Governor Holcomb. Dave and Bruce had previously done plantings of native grasses and plants at Mallard Roost.
Ron Long
During the recent election of Chapter 182 Officers, long-time President Ron Long announced that he would not seek re-election and would like to be replaced. Ron has served as President and Banquet Chairman for over 20 years, and has made invaluable contributions to our organization. He has provided strong leadership and has earned the respect of our members, and the staff at the National PF office as well. Under his leadership, Chapter 182 has been ranked among the top 20 Chapters in the US in several habitat categories, and is the only Indiana Chapter to be so recognized.
Ron is being succeeded by Scott Kimmel, who is a long term member of the Chapter, and has been very active in a variety of roles over the years. Scott has large shoes to fill, but will do so capably. Ron will continue his active membership in Chapter 182, and will continue to provide valuable counsel as we move forward.
Ron, Thank you for your dedicated service in the past and we look forward to continuing to work with you in the future.
Top Habitat Investment in 2022
Chapter 182 was recognized as one of the top 24 Chapters investing over $ 50,000 in Habitat in 2022. In the Spring 2023 edition of Pheasants Forever magazine, Northeast IN Chapter 182 was honored as the 16th largest in Habitat spending in 2022 with a total expenditure of $ 73,671. This is certainly a tribute to the Chapter 182 members who spend their time on habitat projects, but also reflects on all those members who contribute their time in many ways to raise the funds necessary to support those efforts. Thanks also to the many individuals and organizations who make donations to our annual Fund Raising Banquet and to those who attend the event. Remember, 100 % of all funds raised stay in our four county membership area of Allen, DeKalb, Noble and Steuben.
